Longines released another retro-look timepiece evocative of the 30s; a modern Heritage Classic Sector Dial watch in honour of the 1934 Heritage Classic. The Longines watch features a dial divided into sectors with a silver opaline inner disk and sub-seconds counter — Arabic numerals feature at the cardinal positions above a satin-finished silver disk.
Powered by the new cal. L893.5 which is exclusive to Longines and features a silicon balance spring, this automatic movement is meant strictly for the Heritage line and has an impressive 64-hour power reserve.
At 38.5 mm, the new brushed steel model uses a simple case shape, with slim lugs, a sturdy, textured crown, and comes on either a black or blue leather strap with an additional alternative bracelet.
The dial of the watch is clearly the star of the design, with a white outer section and a silver minute ring within, showcasing the printed, horizontal Arabic numerals and dark areas that divide the face.
Further within is the white inner section, with a black crosshair and vintage Longines logo toward the 12 o’clock position.
At the bottom of the dial is an engine-turned seconds sub-dial, complete with a small blued steel hand, and determining the hour and minute are two blued-steel stick hands also constructed in the vintage style.
The shorter of the two reaches to the nearest end of the minute hashes while the minute’s hand reaches to the edge of the circle. Although the Heritage Classic does not include a date feature, it boasts of a sub-second dial at 6:00 and a crystal sapphire.
The Longines Heritage Classic comes in two models, differentiated by their straps, with one reference getting a blue leather strap and the other a black leather strap. Both references can be purchased with a contrasting NATO (if you get the blue leather strap, it also comes with a black NATO, or vice versa) and a tool to help change straps.
